Project Summary
Amistad Continuation High School is a completely new campus for the Desert Sands Unified School District. Founded in the 1970s, it is the only continuation high school in the district. The 20-acre site consists of contemporary classrooms, a state-of-the-art automotive shop, an expanded library, a multi-purpose room, and a modern, full-size gymnasium. A larger lunch area with additional lunch tables and shade structures provides a more comfortable setting for students than past campuses. The site posed a challenging geologic hazard condition of the potential for seismically induced lateral spreading, but the project design team incorporated stone columns throughout the site to mitigate the condition.
