Yoshi Fights Hunger with KNA’s Helping Hands

By Kevin Westervelt – September 13, 2017

Recently, KNA engineers Awaaz Patel, Emily Jahansouz and Tyler Poucher lent their structural design and “fight against hunger” services to support fellow colleagues of Little Diversified Architectural Consulting (Little) to build “Yoshi, Lashing out at Hunger” for the 2017 Canstruction Orange County.

“Canstruction provided a great opportunity for team building with our design client. The end result was a colorful Yoshi that was a lot of fun to be a part of. I’m certainly looking forward to next year.” said Emily.

Local architects, design professionals and students use their expertise in a design-build competition to create imaginative structures built out of canned food. The sculptures are displayed in sites located throughout Orange County with final judging held on September 9. Little’s design is on view at South Coast Plaza, in front of Crate & Barrel, through September 24th. At the end of the competition, all canned food is donated to the OC Food Bank.

Award! Structural Ingenuity 2017

This year is Canstruction’s tenth annual event was held in Orange County. Began by the Society for Design Administration (Seattle) in 1992, the design event and food drive is now held in cities all over the world. These events are nationally recognized for their commitment to art, innovation and hunger relief. “Canstruction art exhibitions have helped raise over 40 million pounds of food for food banks since 1992.”

UPDATE: Yoshi, Lashing Out at Hunger has won the 2017 category award for Structural Ingenuity! Way to go, Little!
