One of the highlights of our summers here at KNA is being able to invest in college students that are studying structural engineering. This year we had the opportunity to get to know and work with Cole McManus, a graduate student at the University of California San Diego.
Reflecting on the Summer
Cole had this to say as he reflected on his time with us: “I had the opportunity to take what I’ve learned in school and see how it translates to real-life design. Through working on gravity and lateral calculations, I was able to observe how experienced engineers go through the design process. I was also able to grow more familiar with the various design codes and gain a greater understanding of what factors need to be considered in design practice. I’m grateful for the opportunity I had to work at KNA this summer and know that I am better prepared for my future career because of it!”
“At KNA we really try and give our interns an experience that mirrors what we do, including design and detailing of buildings, visiting job sites, and meeting with clients,” Principal Ben Pitts added, “Cole was able to build on his knowledge of steel, concrete, and wood by working on multiple challenging projects and visit construction sites under the supervision of our licensed engineers.”
