The Timberwolf greets students and faculty high above their school. When Murrieta Valley USD’s Thompson Middle School wanted to place their mascot of a timber wolf to stand proudly on top of their school, we took the lead in getting the project approved through the San Diego office of the Division of the State Architect.
The unique project utilized a steel internal frame and mounting brackets, clad in a CNC-formed foam form and a resin exterior. KNA Structural Engineers’ analysis of the internal frame and the anchorage to the structure ensure the Timberwolf will overlook the students of Thompson Middle School for many years to come. KNA’s Project Manager was Travis Culp, P.E. who collaborated with our client, Murrieta Valley Unified School District.
This project was exciting to work on because it allowed us to engineer a unique monument that elicits school pride amongst the students and the community. It was fascinating to be involved throughout the design process and the sculpting– then to see the final design that blends both science and art.
