Project Summary
UC Irvine Health is one of the only healthcare providers in Orange County to provide state-of-art radiation oncology treatment. In order to facilitate the installation of the Linear Accelerator (LINACC), the TrueBream™ STx, in the new suite at the medical center, the roof of a single-story component of the existing building had to be removed. The vault consists of reinforced concrete up to 4 feet thick with up to 10 inches of embedded lead plating. The entire vault structure is supported on a deep-drilled caisson foundation that is independent of the building’s foundation system. This necessitated the use of special low-overhead drilling rigs due to constrictions of the existing construction.
