Logan Memorial Educational Campus, Phase 1

Project Summary

San Diego Unified School District sought to modernize and expand its Logan Memorial Educational Campus with leadership from DLR Group|BakerNowicki and much input from the neighboring community. The original Logan Elementary School was built in 1973, and the District expanded the campus in the early 2000s by adding middle school facilities. Phase I of this project completely reconstructed the K-8 campus (classrooms, administration offices, and multi-purpose building), and Phase II further expanded the campus to add a high school component while also seismically upgrading three existing buildings.

The architecture of the new campus is influenced by Mexican modernism, a fitting reflection of the area’s rich culture. The K-6 part of the campus contains maker spaces for the students to collaborate and create with one another, while the 7-12th grade section features a career and counseling center to help high school students prepare for their next phase of life. Each classroom village is designed around collaboration spaces to promote flexible learning.
